Established in 2006, RisenStarr is a very small home-based kennel.  We are located in North Gower (Ottawa) Ontario on a 13 acre hobby farm.  The farm has a dog training business on the property, which gives us a great opportunity to have fun and work all at the same time!  

In 2002, I began researching the Flat-Coated Retriever and by January 2003, I had my first. Fieldday Belle Starr, aka Belle (2002-2009).  What a wonderful girl she was.  She paved the way for everything I have today.  You will see that the girls are my family and my breeding programme has taken a great deal of time to establish. I only want the best for the breed and advancement for my dogs. Deciding to breed is a well thought out process. Sometimes plans come together and then fall apart. And Mother Nature will always have the last say. Future planning for the litters often happen well before pups are old enough to even breed. Learning and working together as they grow and develop,allows us to learn about their strengths and weaknesses. By doing the work ourselves, I find it builds the foundation to find a perfect breeding down the road.  

As a breeder, I do take this responsibility very serious. All dogs are health tested for Eyes, Hips, Patellas and Elbows and if required, colour coat tested to validate their potential for the liver and yellow gene. 

As a breeder with young dogs, it is likely that there will be at least one breeding a year.
